Who We Are
The CPLS is a coalition of non-profit law firms, NGOs, labour unions and community advocacy groups from around BC. We are both concerned and directly affected by the deterioration of legal aid services in BC.
We believe that access to our justice system is fundamental in upholding the rule of law, which is an essential element of our democracy. Justice should not be a luxury, available only to those who can afford it. Without access to justice, the legitimacy of our entire system is undermined.
Members of the CPLS have been working on access to justice issues for years. We came together as a coalition in response to the most recent cuts to legal aid in BC. We are not just lawyers or legal organizations - our coalition includes community advocacy organizations who are deal with the real life on the ground impacts of the cuts to legal aid and other social services.
